As long as Ropes Unravel. 2023

Influenced by geopolitics and postcolonial theory, this work interrogates how we engage with racial and cultural trauma as a collective through diasporic mythology and narrative. It is particularly influenced by the Afro-futurist nautical mythology The Black Atlantis, which maps a ‘fabricated’ history of rebirth and collective action in the context of the transatlantic slave trade. In its making, it looks to explore ways of engaging with this traumatic history through reformed narratives rooted in the politics of love and community; stemming from the intent to provide spaces for black audiences to reflect on the philosophies of hope and healing that Afro-futurism posits.

Shown in the dual show The Grounds from which We Grow with Natasha Burton, at Addis Fine Art London, London.
